Facebook Fan to Client Referral Contest

“I like someone.”

“I’m engaged.”

Which news gets you more excited?

Connect to Research Work on facebookThat’s what I thought.  About 30 people like Research Works on Facebook, and that’s great, but they’re a passive group. I want them and as many others as they can find to be engaged with the company.  That means they’re interacting with me or with each other on the page, they’re paying attention to updates, and they’re doing it because it benefits them.

I have faced it: I don’t have fun products to sell, and most of my fans don’t need my services.  Most are my fans because they’re also my friends, and I suggested the page to them.  I realized recently that one of my fans didn’t know Research Works was my business!  After reading this article in Advertising Age, I don’t feel too bad about that.  Author Gregory Levey doesn’t believe most of his 674,716 fans know that they like his book entitled, “Shut Up.  I’m Talking.”  Their likes haven’t translated into sales, so he surmises that half a million people just like the phrase, “Shut Up. I’m Talking,” and they have no idea it’s a book.

Sales is both a numbers game and a depth game.  That’s why I want a high number of engaged fans, and that’s why I’m starting a Facebook Fan to Client Referral Contest. The contest will reward fans who bring in more fans with products or discounts from local businesses, fans who bring in clients with cash, and businesses who provide prizes with more exposure and new customers.

That’s where you come in.  I’m looking for product giveaways, gift certificates, and discounts on services that I can pass on to contest winners. Here’s how my growing list of fans will get to know your business:

  • Once you provide a contest reward, your company logo will be featured on the Research Works contest tab on Facebook and on the Research Works contest page here on the site. (Visit facebook.com/worldmarket for an idea of how the Research Works Facebook page will be arranged for the contest.)
  • The contest tab will feature a direct link to the Research Works contest page, where details of your offer and a one-line description of your business will appear beside your company logo.
  • Your company logo will also serve as a link to your page.
  • When people claim their prizes, you provide the service they would expect.

There is no minimum or maximum amount.  Much like a bank card rewards program, winners will be able to choose their prizes depending on how much they have contributed.  The more fans my current fans refer to the Research Works Facebook page, the larger the value of the rewards for which they are eligible.  However, if a reward of a high value doesn’t interest them, they can choose a reward of a lower value.

The contest will start on September 1, 2010, and end on November 30, 2010, or when the last prize is claimed.  Please be mindful of the above dates if you provide a product or discount with an expiration date.

I sincerely hope that you will take this opportunity to promote your business, see what social media can do, and help another business owner.  Please contact me to let me know what you would like to promote, or to suggest another business that might want to participate.  Additionally, please feel free to share this news with others.

Also, if you’re on Facebook, become a fan! If your “like” eventually leads to a paying client, you will receive either a $25 or $50 cash reward. Detailed rules will be posted once we make this contest idea a reality.

Thanks for your support!

Mariam
